January 2009

Welcome back
It's a new year and we have a lot of exciting activities planned. This week (1/12-1/21) Crocker Museum Art Arkwill be visiting David Lubin. The Art Ark is a mobile art education center, which brings original works of art and art activities to schools throughout the region. The Art Ark's current theme, Once Upon a Paintbrush Stories in Art, is designed to connect and expand upon the language arts curriculum. Through multi-sensory, hands-on learning activities designed by local artists, students will explore the elements of a story and learn how stories have inspired works of art across various times, mediums and cultures. All students will tour the ark and have a chance to participate in the various activities. See the classroom schedule below so that you can make plans to tour with your student's class. As a extra treat David Lubin is hosting an evening open Ark event on Friday, January 16 from 5:30-7 The Ark is parked in the staff parking lot and docents from the Crocker Art Museum will be on hand to answer your questions. We resume our classroom art program on Friday, January 23. Session 3 will build on the elements of art, adding texture and space. February starts the after school academy programs and we will be offering 2 after school art class, one for kinder and one for students grades 1st-3rd. Watch for the informational packet that will have more details regarding all of the after school programs. That's all for now...it's going to be a great art year!
