Garden Tour poster magic!

The 3rd and 4th grade students prepped the art materials for the 2022 Garden Tour poster

This year the art piece was made from soft modeling clay that can be shaped and reformed over and over again without drying out. The background was a tissue paper collage.

3rd Grade Artwork 2016-17

In 3rd grade a lot of our art projects connect to classroom themes of original people and folk tales. You can see these subjects reflected in numerous piece created this year.

Third Grade Program overview

Objective for students: to experience a variety of mediums and techniques used for creating art. Expanding art history knowledge, connect to class themes while building art vocabulary. Using art tools, developing fine motor skills and following a series of directions

Painted paper- process painting with sponges, caps and corks

Pumpkins-What is a pumpkin shape, what are the parts of pumpkin? Direct drawing process, looking at natural shapes, creating using step by step process. Completed work drawn with white glue on black paper, colored with chalk pastel

Owls- what is an owl shape, what are owl body parts? Continuous line drawing, following a series of steps, learning to let the pencil/pen guide your design, pen stays on the paper. School Project- Heart drawing and watercolor project for online sales

Leaping Orca- what is an orca what are the body parts? Building a multi-layer composition. Watercolor background to create ocean and sky/color blending, tempera paint splash, sketch, draw, color and cut out whale form and position on background elements. Art vocabulary and skill building.

Science/Nature/Art connection observation and imagination

Howling Wolf- Supporting grade curriculum Native American studies artists create a narrative work using color value sky/stars/moon background and a wolf silhouette. Project completed using tempera paint, construction paper, metallic markers and gel pens, Painting and Collage. Nature/Art observation imagination
Totem Pole Project: Building on previous knowledge/skills students create a paper totem component that will be part of a larger group project. Handouts, design samples and coloring pages provided inspiration. Paper collage. Skill building and connecting to Core curriculum.
