My Monster Hair Day

Some days are bad hair days and some are Monster Hair days. Student continue to explore the structure of the human face, in this project with a more "cartoon" approach. Using a U shape format adding monster hair and other wacky additions this fun one day drawing project allows for lots of creative expression and would work well with a creative writing element.

This is Me!

Welcome to the art room my Kinder friends, this is the project I start the year out with our youngest artists.

"This is me!"  a self portrait in color pencil/crayon on a pre-printed "frame" paper.

I learn so much just by this one simple project and hopefully the artists do too!

Sunday

Graduation Self Portraits

I took photographs of the students and used a computer drawing program to convert them to high contrast image. The portrait image was transferred (photo copied) to a clear overhead transparency. The students created a collage on white base paper under the overhead picture. To complete the project the artists added a personal phrase about themselves and mounted the portraits on a 12x18 sheet of heavy construction paper. The student portraits were placed around the multi purpose room for the 6th grade promotion ceremony and given to the families at the end of the program.

Thursday

Make some Money

This fun project introduced 3rd grades students to art/skill of print making. Using small  pre-cut foam board and wooden stylists they created their own money. A simplified self portrait provided the center piece for this art project.

Connects to 3rd grade standards (money) and supports Art History (Andy Warhol).

Sunday

Torn Paper Self Portaits

Students review the basics for creating a self portrait practicing on sketch paper with mirrors. Using head shaped patterns they drew a simplified picture of themselves on card stock. Construction paper and magazines were the materials used to complete this project. Students used glue sticks to apply the materials but scissors were not allowed, this was a torn paper art piece. I think they did a great job.
