Kinder Works of Art 2017-18

What did we do this year in Art?
Habitat to Home was our art room theme for 2017-18

We explored a variety of artistic processes, asked questions presented connections and made discoveries- during the journey created some great art too!
Kindergarten Program overview
Objective for students: to experience a variety of mediums and techniques used for creating art. Introduce art history text and the elements of art. Develop fine motor skills and following simple directions
Kinder Cats-Artists create their own cat using pre-cut shapes, crayons, embellishments and color pencils.
This is Me! - Artist self portrait
Name Game-Line direction, following series of stop and go directions, how to use a paint brush, watercolor blending, skill building.

Snow Person- creating a background with sponge and circle stamps. Collage elements to cut and apply with glue to a background in a specific order- size (small, medium large) position, (top, middle, bottom) parts of the face, adding details, building a collage. Building vocabulary and understanding of size, proportion. Where would a snowperson "live"? Observation/Imagination Supports red, white and blue and weather/season units





Rainbow Robots- following a series of directions, build a robot with 6 rectangular shapes glue to background, add face/ details with crayon, collage and or stickers.  Artists created a rainbow background sky/ground. Vocabulary and skill building
Georgia Flowers – Following a series of directions, tracing a pattern, drawing big, students created large flower shapes, painted with tempera paint, cut out and details added with oil pastels. Later name leaves were added, to identify the artists.
Magic Snails- Introduction to clay, following a series of directions artists blend 2 colors of model magic to create a coil form and build a snail shape.

Art History connection: Jasper John flag series, pop art, Bearden, Georgia O’Keeffe



1st grade art creations 2016-17

In First Grade we continue our skill building an art exploration with lots of animal based projects. Here is an overview of what we did this year.

We explored a variety of artistic processes, asked questions presented connections and made discoveries- during the journey created some great art too!
First Grade Program overview
Objective for students: to experience a variety of mediums and techniques used for creating art. Introduce art history text and continue exposure to the elements of art. Using art tools, developing fine motor skills and following a series of directions.
Painted paper-process painting with sponges, caps and corks- Fine motor skills, hands on experience
Spider and Web-review line direction, direct drawing create a web with crayon, paint over with watercolor and observe the reaction of wax to water, add salt to wet paint to create another effect.
Science Art connection Observation/Imagination
Cookie People around the world-using a pattern to cut out a shape. Human form. Looking a traditional dress and costumes around the world. Using assorted papers to create unique clothing. Drawing details with crayon and or pencil.
Cultural connection-Traditional dress around the world
School Project- Heart drawing and watercolor project for online sales
Klee Cat- inspired by the work of Paul Klee students learned how to follow a series of direct drawing instructions and create their own Cat/Bird composition. Completed project in crayon and watercolor
Awesome GiraffesGiraffe facts and fun. Artists created a colorful background habitat for their art giraffe. Using a pattern for the head they drew their own giraffe complete with ears, eyes, muzzle and awesome cone! Cut paper collage, makers and color pencil for details.

Thursday

Folk Cat

Using direct drawing as a jumping off point students created their own cat pattern. They used this form to trace and cut out a "fabric" (Old wall paper samples) cat. Using a hole puncher they made an seam/outline that they laced with yarn. Last details were added with buttons and thin black sharpie.
