1st Grade Artwork 2017-18

What did we do this year in Art?
Habitat to Home was our art room theme for 2017-18

We explored a variety of artistic processes, asked questions presented connections and made discoveries- during the journey created some great art too!
First Grade Program overview
Objective for students: to experience a variety of mediums and techniques used for creating art. Introduce art history text and continue exposure to the elements of art. Using art tools, developing fine motor skills and following a series of directions.

Spider and Web-review line direction, direct drawing create a web with crayon, paint over with watercolor and observe the reaction of wax to water, add salt to wet paint to create another effect.
Science Art connection Observation/Imagination

Cookie People around the world-using a pattern to cut out a shape. Human form. Looking a traditional dress and costumes around the world. Using assorted papers to create unique clothing. Drawing details with crayon and or pencil. Cultural connection
Scrappy Puppies- using patterns and following a series of directions artist create their own dog portrait for scrapbook paper. Skill building




Sometimes I feel…- faces show emotions. Using templates for a head shape, students cut and color a human face that expresses a specific emotion/feeling of their choice. Collage and drawing. Vocabulary Observation/Imagination


Rainbow Zebras-  Zebras facts and fun, this painting, coloring and collage project challenged students to follow a series of directions, trace a pattern, composition and design. What is a background? Where do Zebras live? Where does your Rainbow Zebra live?  Science Art connection Observation/Imagination




Tiger Tiger- Inspired by the work of Henri Rousseau student used tempera paints, drawing a collage create their own jungle tiger. Science Art connection Observation/Imagination

Cool Zebras

2 Part project, painting the faces and adding details with pre cut collage elements.

Zebra Stripes
First Grade project developing patterns using paper,scissors and glue.
Students cut out vertical lines of their own design using scissors. The white stripes where glued to black paper creating an AB AB pattern.
