Monday

More Cute Cookies

What a sweet and fun way to learn , what are the parts of our face and where are they located. Where are my arms, legs and tummy...coloring, cutting, gluing and creating!

Wednesday

Cookie People around the world

It's a small world  cut and collage project.
Inspired by cultural clothing from around the world.

Monday

First Grade Cookie People

Working with a slightly smaller-redesigned template this year, we completed this project in one 45-50 minute class period. I think the experience and results were just as rewarding for the students. Lots of fun scrapbook paper for clothing and construction paper crayons for details.

Library Connection: I did read select parts of the Ginger Baby Book ( I don't like the ending of that story...very strange and kinda bleak), but the illustrations are wonderful!

Thursday

Cookie People

Working with my special needs Pre-K and DHH students I use a larger cookie person pattern. We explore color and texture while "decorating" and designing these fun paper treats. It is a fun way to begin developing cutting skills as well as the parts of the face.

Monday

It's a small cookie world

Cookie people from around the world.
I provide cookie people patterns and show students how to place the entire pattern on the paper "dough" before they begin to trace. Using either regular scissors or "crazy" scissors they cut along their traced form and if time allows color a face .
Part II: time to add the "icing" so I bring out  collage materials such as stickers, bits of yarn and lace, scrapes of solid and printed papers and tissue paper. Students refer to table handout that show cultural costumes from around the world for inspiration. In the end we have very colorful "it's a small world" cookies .
