Tiger, Tyger burning bright!

This 2 part project using direct drawing, cutting and gluing skills allows for a lot of individual expression and creativity. We looked at the work of Henri Rousseau particularly the painting Surprise/Tiger in a tropical storm 1891 



Step 1 in pencil trace circle add nose, muzzle, mouth and eyes. Using Sharpie and white color pencil trace pencil and add details and tiger stripes 






Step 2 finish drawing details cut out jungle leaves, flowers and insects to hide your tiger .

My Name Sculpture

My Name Sculpture-Using the letters of their name students cut, colored and designed a 3-D sculpture. This project can connect to several different contemporary artists and support art standards.







Take a Line for a Walk

Connecting to the Elements of art starting with line, moving into shapes and forms then color, texture and value and ending by creating a 3-D sculpture. This project takes 3-4 50 minute sessions to complete.

My Winter Hat


Starry Night Snow Person

It was a cold and starry night...

Working with oil pastels, blue, white and black tempera paint, colored pencils, assorted collage papers and embellishments.

2 or 3 session project

Once there was a Snowman Snow-woman

Once there was a Snowman, Snowman, Snowman...just part of our kinder winter song.
This 3 part project connects to weather and builds on art skills,techniques and vocabulary.

On blue paper students draw a windy starry night (inspired by Vincent Van Gogh) and using a sponge
create a snow winter ground.

Second visit we discuss the words, big medium and small, top middle and bottom. Students cut out pre-printed circles in 3 different sizes and glue them to the ground of their paper going from bottom/biggest to middle/medium and top/smallest.

Third session is all about the details (and getting any absent students caught up). Using buttons, ribbon, colored pencils and crayons they add the finishing touches to their Snow-person.





Monday

Bird Print Portraits

4 part project, life study drawings to finished prints.
Part I: drawing from life introduce Audubon (brief history connects to 5th grade standards). Using bird prints and coloring book drawings, students create a series of bird portrait sketches
Part II: artists refine their sketches and introduce the printing process
Part III: one drawing is selected and transferred to the printing plate-model process and allow for practice with materials
Part IV: Printing Day-set up large tables and work in small groups.






























Winter Moon Winter Tree

2 part project: color values painted with tempera and collage/perspective. Connects to classroom themes of seasons, weather, sky and trees building vocabulary and skills . Enjoy the variety and compositions.



Turtle Turtle in the Sea

This 3-4 part project connects to Aboriginal art and color theory and allows for a lot of personal creativity.
