We explored a variety of artistic processes, asked questions presented connections and made discoveries- during the journey created some great art too!
DHH Mixed program overview
Objective for students: to experience a variety of mediums and techniques used for creating art. Expanding art history knowledge, connect to class themes while building art vocabulary. Using art tools, developing fine motor skills, support individual development of expression and following a series of directions.
Painted paper- process painting with sponges, caps and corks
Fine motor skills, hands on experience
Pumpkins-What is a pumpkin shape, what are the parts of pumpkin? Direct drawing process, looking at natural shapes, creating using step by step process. Completed work drawn with white glue on black paper, colored with chalk pastel
Science/Nature/Art connection
Folk Art Cat- Inspired by the work of folk artist Laurel Burch, students created their own folk-art cat using metallic color pencils on black paper. Skill building and following a series of directions.
School Project- Heart drawing and watercolor project for online sales
Paper Quilt Cats – Continuing the cat theme student create a cat pattern, selected a paper quilt square and body paper. Cutting/collage created an image and used yarn to lace/sew, buttons and trim were used for details.
3-D cats- Built around recycled materials, using newspaper and tape artists create cat bodies, paper mache was used for the form. Once dried the sculptures were painted with acrylic paints, details with Sharpie. Skill building and exploring 3-D forms.
Scrappy Dogs- Using a series of patterns and building on the quilt square theme, students created their own scrappy dog using printed paper fabric.
