4th Grade Artistic Creations 2017-18


Objective for students: to experience a variety of mediums and techniques used for creating art. Expanding art history knowledge, connect to class themes while building art vocabulary. Using art tools, strengthen hand eye coordination in creativity and following a series of more complex directions, problem solve as individuals.

Starry Night Inspired Landscape -What are the basic elements of landscape? Dividing the picture plane. Art vocabulary, following a series of direct drawing instructions, sketching, developing a personal approach drawing crayon and over painting with water colors, salt added for star effect. City/Country theme
Math/Science/Art observed and imagined landscapes

Building a City- Hands on construction with blocks to understand one-point perspective.

Imaginary buildings- If you could construct any kind of building you wanted to what would it look like? Using a variety of art materials students created their own building as part of their class town. Project connects to engineering and design concepts

Charming buildings- working with model magic clay artists created 3-D mini charm buildings Project connects to engineering and design concepts


The red barn – moving from 2-D to 3-D construction, students were given a flat barn template and challenged to cut, collage and create their own 3-D construction. Project connects to engineering and design concepts



Art History connection:  Picasso, Van Gogh, Romare Bearden, Norman Rockwell, Grant Woods
